In Person Tutoring Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
During the first meeting, I\’ll ask you questions to understand your background, your academic situation, your learning style, your concerns, and your goals. Then I\’ll have you do some problems and explain your thought process. Doing so will allow me to pinpoint your exact area of weakness. Then we\’ll discuss a plan going forward that wil help you reach your goals.
The structure of subsequent meetings varies depending on what your needs are. It can range from learning concepts to step-by-step homework help to material review for exams.
The first meeting is conducted in a public space, such as a library or coffee shop. Subsequent meetings can be conducted in the students house if preferred or can be continued at the public space.
Travel up to 20 minutes is covered free of charge. Any extra traveling time will be charged at the tutoring rate. For example, if my travel time to you is 35 minute, 15 minutes (35-20) will be charged at the tutoring rate.
If you rather avoid paying for travel time, we can meet somewhere closer to San Francisco or do online tutoring.
For the first session, please bring your textbook, syllabus, notes, previous exams if you have them, and anything else you think would be helpful.
For subsequent sessions, bring anything that you would like to go over.
Most sessions usually just last an hour. Students are always amazed at how much they get done in the hour and how quickly the time seems to pass. If you wish to meet for longer than an hour, I can meet for 1.5 or 2 hours instead.
The frequency of meeting depends on the student\’s individual need. I meet some students twice a week to make sure they\’re on top of their material. I also have students that I only meet with right before their exams to do a final review. After I meet with you the first time and understand your unique situation, I can better recommend a meeting frequency.
Unlike other tutors who teach every subject imaginable, I ONLY tutor chemistry. What this means for you is that I can explain concepts in multiple ways until you \”get it\”. With over 1200 hours of chemistry tutoring under my belt, you can be confident that I will be able to answer any questions you ask. I\’ve helped students with problems ranging from those who were so far behind they didn\’t know where to start to those who just couldn\’t make the jump for a B to an A. And I can help you reach your goal.
Second, what separates me from other chemistry tutors is that I don\’t focus solely on comprehension of the class material. Acing the class involves more than just understanding the material. Sure comprehension is important, but if you can\’t apply the material, then your grade will suffer. If you can\’t deconstruct a problem, and figure out which concept to use, your grade will plummet. If you can\’t select the right answer among answers that all sound somewhat correct, your grade will drop. Etc. I help you improve on all these areas so that when the exam comes around, you\’ll be ready to rock it.
Lastly, I won\’t just teach you chemistry. I will also teach you a study system that maximizes your efficiency so you finish your homework faster. Using this system, you\’ll be able study less while still get good grades. Personally I used this study system at UC Berkeley and it allowed me to get a 3.93 GPA while only studying for two hours a day. This system is extremely easy to implement and it will help you get higher grades in high school and in college. Most tutors don\’t even teach you basic study skills.
Payment is to be made after each meeting. Cash, check, PayPal, and Venmo are accepted.

Online Tutoring Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
From my six years of experience, online tutoring is equally as effective as in person tutoring. I have a writing tablet that allows you to see everything I write as if I was right there by your side. With Zoom, we’ll be able to hear and see each other. Essentially, it simulates an in person tutoring session very well. In fact, many of my student prefer online tutoring even if they have the option to meet in person because of the flexibility and convenience.
There are a couple of options we can try so I can see what you write.
- Use a collaborate whiteboard. I’ll pull up the problem onto the whiteboard and then both of us can write on the whiteboard. I’ll be able to see what you write and you’ll be able to see what I write in real time.
- You can verbally walk” me through what you’re doing. For example, if we’re doing a stoichometry problem, you can tell me you’re taking the mass and dividing by the molar mass to get to moles. With six years of tutoring experience, I can visualize your work from just hearing what you’re doing.
- You can write on a piece of paper and show the paper to the webcam. This is preferred method by many of my students. It’s quick, easy, and effective.
With in-person tutoring, your options are restricted by your location. If you happen to live in an area with experienced chemistry tutors, then you’re in luck. But if you don’t, online tutoring allows you to transcend the boundaries. You’ll have access to my chemistry tutoring expertise from anywhere with an internet connection.

Regardless of where chemistry is taught in the United States, chemistry is still chemistry. The subject is still the same and curriculum is very very similar. Once we set up tutoring, I can do research and learn the specific curriculum of your state. You can also send me a syllabus and then I’ll know exactly what to cover.
We can process payments through either PayPal or Venmo. You can create a free account and then either use your credit card or back account. Sending money with PayPal & Venmo is free, easy, fast, and secure. I’ll walk you through the process step by step.
If you don’t feel comfortable using Venmo or PayPal, you can also send money through your bank account (Zelle). Under special circumstances, I’ll be willing to accept checks but that would be a last resort. Checks take a while to get delivered and can be lost in the process.
